We have left behind a 2023 full of great launches, among which some of the best video games of recent years, but new year, new life. It’s time to look at 2024 and that’s why we already made our list a few days ago with the most anticipated games of this new year. But the general lists miss out on some small titles that are also worth remembering. Today, we want to remember the horror genre, one of the favorites of the author of this article. And in the field of scares, a few gems arrive almost immediately.

In addition to games from recognized sagas such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, Silent Hill 2 Remake o Little Nightmares III, there are some new titles (almost all of them emerging from the indie scene) that have made our ‘ears stand on end’. Promising titles that, for sure, are going to be the origin of some of the nightmares that we will have in 2024. You know, turn off the light in the room, put on some headphones and enjoy the pleasure of being scared on your console or PC with these five recommendations that you can’t miss if you love the genre. Like me:

Pacific Drive

Next February 22, Pacific Drive arrives on PC and PS5, a mysterious driving and survival adventure from Ironwood Studios and Kepler Interactive. The game puts us in a van and allows us to drive across a huge, isolated stretch of land to discover its spooky secrets. A truly original game whose advances have put fear in our bodies. And the desire to get your hands on it.

Sons of the Forest

A first-person action game, with horror and survival as the main focus, which has been in early access on Steam for much of 2023, and with the most positive opinions from players. The title is scheduled for final release on February 23, so you can now prepare to survive on the remote island where it is set. An extreme survival simulator that abandons you on an island, with a huge, completely open map, full of dangerous cannibals and even worse.

Alone in the Dark

I’m especially excited about the reboot, remake (or whatever we want to call it) of Alone in the Dark that will arrive this coming March. I know that this is not the first time that attempts have been made to reinvent the famous Infogrames saga that inaugurated the survival horror genre. Already in 2008 we had a new ‘Alone in the Dark’, thus without surnames, which came from Atari (this time set in New York’s Central Park) but, despite its good manners, it didn’t turn out all that well. that we expected. But the version from Pieces Interactive and THQ Nordic that arrives will recreate the original 1992 title, with private investigator Edward Carnby as the protagonist and the terrifying Derceto mansion as the setting. And with actor David Harbor (Hopper in Stranger Things) playing Carnby.

Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game

If we talk about classics, classic is the movie on which this promising video game is based. Good Shepherd Entertainment and the Metro Goldwyn Mayer studio have produced this amazing online asymmetrical multiplayer game inspired by the classic 1988 MGM B-movie (here it was called ‘Killer Clowns’ or ‘The Killer Clowns from Outer Space’). This wonder will allow us to relive the film from the skin of the rednecks of the town invaded by the alien circus of murderous clowns or as the monsters themselves. Asymmetric games pit 3 players as clowns (more powerful) against 7 rednecks who will try to defend themselves tooth and nail. A surprising title, to say the least.

Bye Sweet Carole

Chris Darril is an indie developer known for his horror saga Remothered. This year the launch of his new video game is expected, which, at first glance, looks nothing like anything he has done before. But appearances are deceiving. Bye Sweet Carole is a game that has a colorful and bright artistic section, inspired by the first great Disney animated films. It seems that we are facing a friendly and captivating game, a graphic adventure, but in reality this is a nightmare that is still immersed in the survival horror genre.
