The multiple murders were committed in Villa Mercedes, a difficult-to-access area in the Guayas canton. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, Samborondón had never had a massacre of this magnitude.
Cinco members of a family were murdered early this Saturday, July 27, in the Villa Mercedes complex, in the Samborondón canton, in the province of Guayas.
Three men and two women were the victims. Bodies of four of them were found inside a wooden housewhile another was left outside, according to a police report.
The victims were identified as:
- Miranda Leon Domingo Felix (father)
- Rodriguez Martinez Ana Mercedes (mother)
- Miranda Rodriguez Oscar Roberto (son)
- Miranda Rodriguez Juan Alberto (son)
- Cortes Castro Fatima Beloved (family member)
The crime was reported at around 4:30 a.m. However, due to the difficult access to the area, police officers arrived at dawn. Investigative proceedings continued for several hours.
To get to Villa Mercedes, many choose to cross the Babahoyo River by boat from the Samborondón boardwalk. The other Access is via a third-order road from the Tres Postes enclosure, which means passing through plantations and cattle pens.
