In the Iranian city of Urmia, 5 people were sentenced to death on charges of spying for the interests of Israel.

According to the Norwegian-based human rights organization Hengaw, five other Iranians, including Mansour Rasouli, were sentenced to long terms in prison in connection with the same case.

Last year, Israeli media reported that agents of the Mossad security service detained and interrogated members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps inside Iran. In a video later released, a man named Mansour Rasouli admitted that he intended to kill an Israeli diplomat in Istanbul, an American general stationed in Germany, and a French journalist.

Iran and Israel have been waging a shadow war for many years, and tensions between them are increasing.

Last November, Mehr News, a semi-official agency, reported that 4 people who collaborated with Israel were sentenced to death in Iran. They were accused of interrogating some people in Iran with the help of the Mossad.

Protests have continued since September after the death of Mahsa Amini, who died in custody in the Islamic Republic. A female student was arrested for allegedly violating the rules of wearing a hijab.

Tehran accuses Israel, the United States and other Western countries of organizing the protests.
