As the mayor of the city, Ihor Terehov, said, a girl died in an airstrike on the playground and a 12-story residential building caught fire.
The multi-storey building is partially destroyed and there are several dead and injured.
Oleh Sinehubov, the head of Kharkiv district administration, said that an educational institution in Kharkiv was destroyed in one of the strikes.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said after the Russian strike that Kyiv should be allowed to destroy military targets on Russian territory to prevent such tragedies.
“Today in Kharkiv. A Russian-controlled aerial bomb hit a multi-story building. Dozens of injured, including children. Rescue operations continue. The injured are receiving medical aid,” Shmihals said. “To prevent such tragedies, Ukraine must be given the opportunity to destroy military targets on Russian territory. This requires more weapons and the commitment of partners. We must stop terror and protect the lives of civilians.”
