Five soldiers stationed in the rural commune of Andranomiely, Ankazobe district, will be brought before the court today, along with two fokontany chiefs and two village women. They are suspected of involvement in the murder of the mayor of this town, which occurred two weeks ago during an armed attack by around forty bandits at his home.
According to the investigations of the Fiadanana criminal research section and the Analamanga gendarmerie group, this would be a settling of scores. The late mayor would have heard of the existence of an extortion case involving officials and the military in the two fokontany. The soldiers, in complicity with the fokontany leaders, allegedly extracted money from certain people under the pretext that they were criminals. The victims complained to the elected official, the mayor opposed these practices and summoned the two heads of fokontany.
During the armed attack of which the mayor was the victim, the soldiers were not worried, nor acted and watched the mayor be lynched and murdered by the dahalo. The tongue of one of the soldiers loosened a few days after the mayor’s murder. Under the influence of alcohol, he allegedly publicly confessed to his crimes. The opening of the investigation then made it possible to discover the other accomplices in the affair.
We remember that such blunders were at the origin of numerous acts of popular vindictiveness and lynching of the military by the population in the past in many localities in Madagascar, notably in Ikongo in 2022 and in Itaosy, Antananarivo.
