Salerno (AP) – The French offensive player Franck Ribéry changes to the Italian first division newcomer US Salernitana from Salerno.
The club announced on Monday. The 38-year-old former FC Bayern Munich player then signed a one-year contract that is automatically extended under certain sporting conditions.
The “Corriere dello Sport” had previously reported that Ribery would arrive by private jet in the nearest major city, Naples, on Monday, meet the club representatives and undergo medical checks. Ribéry posted a short video snippet from an airplane in his story on Instagram on Monday.
The anticipation of a possible change from Ribéry seemed to have spread in the past few days: US Salernitana jerseys with his name were already available in stores. The club announced to reject this and reserve the right to take legal action.
The Frenchman had last played at Fiorentina for two years. His contract with the Serie A club was not renewed. According to the “Gazzetta dello Sport”, he would have liked to stay with the club from Tuscany for a third year. The southern Italian club US Salernitana still has no point after the first two match days. On Sunday, coach Fabrizio Castori’s team will play for Turin FC.
