Samsung has released an important update for eight of its smartphones. Experts classify five of the security gaps that have been fixed as particularly dangerous.
Samsung has released an urgent security update for eight of its smartphone models at the beginning of 2025. The new software fixes a total of 51 security vulnerabilities, five of which are classified as “critical”.
The vulnerabilities affect both the Android operating system and Samsung-specific components. Of the vulnerabilities discovered, 29 fall on Android versions 12 to 15, while 22 vulnerabilities were found exclusively in Samsung devices. The five critical security vulnerabilities in the Android system are particularly worrying: They could allow attackers to remotely access affected devices.
The update is initially available for the following models:
The rollout is taking place gradually and has already begun in the USA and South Korea. Other countries are expected to follow shortly.
In addition to the critical vulnerabilities, Samsung has classified 24 other security holes as “high risk”. Eight of these only affect Samsung devices, the rest are part of the Android operating system. The security holes could be exploited by attackers to overwrite data on smartphones or cause damage to the device memory.
Galaxy S24 series owners have two options to install the update: either via the regular security update or by installing the latest One UI 7.0 beta version. For all other affected models, only the regular update method is available for the time being.
Users can check in the device settings under “Software Update” whether the new version is already available. Samsung recommends installing the update as soon as it is available. Until then, users should ensure that at least the latest available security update is installed.
