The flag procession started in front of the administration building at around 12:15 on Tuesday (September 17). Later, the procession circumambulated the central Shaheed Minar and its surrounding roads.

Morjina Akhtar, coordinator of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of DMK, said that we have been demanding the appointment of highly educated, skilled and experienced nurses for a long time. We want to remove non-nurse administration cadre officers from the posts of Director General, Director of Nursing and Midwifery Directorate and President and Registrar of Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council and properly appoint highly educated, skilled and experienced nurses.

He also said that our march and procession will continue until the demands are met. Along with this, we are also paying special attention to ensure that there is no negligence in providing services to patients. Today, our program continues before Nursing and Midwifery Councils and Directorates.

It is to be noted that on September 8, Director General of Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Directorate Maksura Noor criticized the profession of nurses. Where he referred to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s provision of second class status to nurses as ‘wrong’. In view of this, the nurses’ movement started from September 9.
