General Manager of the Redmi brand Van Teng Thomas stated that the expected increase in prices for flagship smartphones this year is due to the rising cost of top-end chips and memory. This was reported by the iXBT portal, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.
According to Thomas, flagship chips made using a 3-nanometer process technology have become significantly more expensive than their predecessors. Also, memory prices at the end of last year were much lower than current ones.
At last year’s Xiaomi 14 launch conference, Lei Jun said that this is the latest flagship, the price of which starts at 3999 yuan (about 54 thousand rubles). He emphasized that Xiaomi is committed to creating better smartphones, which will lead to an increase in their cost.
Thus, the next generation of the brand’s flagship smartphones, Xiaomi 15 and Redmi K80, will cost more than their predecessors. How much their cost will change has not yet been specified.
Perhaps this statement is primarily applicable to smartphones intended for the Chinese market, where devices are sold noticeably cheaper than on the global market.
