After signing an agreement, the City of Rio and the federal government held this Thursday (3) a ceremony to hand over the keys to the Gasologista land to the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo.
The land belonged to a fund managed by Caixa Econômica Federal and was sold at auction for over R$130 million. There are plans to build a new stadium for the club.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Attorney General of the Union, Minister Jorge Messias, and Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, Esther Dweck, participated via video conference, from Brasília, in the meeting that marked the officialization of the agreement .
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, and the president of Flamengo, Rodolfo Landim, were at the center of operations in the capital city of Rio de Janeiro.
Lula said it was an important day for Flamengo and said he was fulfilling his promise to give special treatment to Rio de Janeiro.
“A team that has the fans that Flamengo has, the passion that Flamengo shows, it is very important that it has a football stadium.”
After the formal, the authorities and the media went to the ceremony to “hand over the keys” to the land, in São Cristóvão.
At this time, the vice-federal Pedro Paulo represented Paes, who was prevented by the electoral law from participating in political actions.
The president of Flamengo, Rodolfo Landim, said that the next step is to survey the land, put together the basic project and request the necessary licenses for the construction of the stadium.
“This phase should last up to two years, hopefully less, and then the construction period begins. Our idea, like the example we have in CT, is to add a 50 meter high tree to flag in the middle of the land, let everyone who passes by see that this is our land.”
