Flamengo is closing in on Botafogo in the fight for the leadership of the Brazilian Championship. On the night of this Wednesday (24), Tite’s team defeated Vitória at Barradão, with a score of 2 to 1.
The goal that secured the three points for Flamengo was scored by Carlinhos, in the 45th minute of the second half. Before that, De Arrascaeta opened the scoring in the first half for Mengão, while Everaldo equalized for Vitória in the second half.
The result was good for Flamengo, which reached 37 points and closed the gap on leader Botafogo, which has 40 points. It is worth mentioning that Mengão has one game less than both Fogão and Palmeiras, the teams occupying the first and second positions in the national tournament.
On the other side of the table, the defeat was very bad for Vitória, which wasted the chance to leave the relegation zone and continues to occupy the 17th place in the Brasileirão. Thiago Carpini’s team has accumulated 15 points in 19 matches played.

Trying to escape the Z4, Vitória faces a tough challenge in the next round. The Rubro-Negro team will face Palmeiras at Allianz Parque on Saturday (27). The match will kick off at 7 PM (Brasília time).
