Flamengo Narrowly Edges Vitória to Close in on Botafogo in Brazilian Championship Race

by time news

Flamengo has closed the gap on Botafogo in the fight for the lead in the Brazilian Championship. On the night of Wednesday (24), Tite’s team defeated Vitória at Barradão, by 2 to 1.

The goal that secured the three points for Flamengo was scored by Carlinhos, in the 45th minute of the second half. Before that, De Arrascaeta opened the scoring in the first half for Mengão, while Everaldo equalized for Vitória in the second half.

The result was good for Flamengo, which reached 37 points and closed in on the leaders Botafogo, who have 40 points. It is worth noting that Mengão has one game less than Fogão and Palmeiras, the teams in first and second place in the national tournament.

On the other side of the table, the defeat was very bad for Vitória, who missed the chance to leave the relegation zone and remain in 17th place in the Brasileirão. Thiago Carpini’s team has 15 points from 19 matches played.

Upcoming Matches

Trying to escape the Z4, Vitória faces a tough challenge in the next round. The Rubro-Negro team faces Palmeiras at Allianz Parque on Saturday (27). The match kicks off at 19:00 (Brasília time).

On Sunday, Flamengo will continue the pursuit of the leadership in the Brasileirão. At Maracanã, at 16:00, Mengão will host Atlético-GO.
