Not just in Bloomfield. After the Tel Aviv derby in the final round was stopped for long minutes due to throwing flares on the pitch, the cup final in Teddy tonight (Tuesday) was also stopped with its start for seven minutes, when two fan camps threw dozens of flares into the field area.
Immediately after the flares were thrown, violent clashes broke out in the stands of Green fans between the crowd and police forces. During the clashes, flares and chairs were thrown at the police and a number of fans who confronted the security forces were arrested, after some of them even tried to break into the lawn. The police reported seven detainees and said that further arrests would be made later.
Maccabi Haifa claims that the police harass its fans, especially in Jerusalem, time and time again for no reason, and emphasized once again that the introduction of the encouragement equipment was banned, while the rival’s fans received approval. The Greens also said that the unnecessary entry to the stands only caused unnecessary commotion and violence and that the police in the capital set themselves the goal of harming the team’s fans for no reason. The Greens mentioned that during the game against Hapoel Jerusalem, police officers beat the fans indiscriminately.
Police said at the start of the game a number of fans, some of them masked, started rioting in the stands and throwing flares at the pitch and at other fans. The throwing of the torches was done in a dangerous manner that hit a number of fans in the stands. Dozens of fans later uprooted and threw chairs from one of the stands, as well as threw sticks, bottles and various objects and attacked policemen. As a result, two policemen were lightly injured and evacuated for medical treatment. Dozens of fans then tried to break into the lawn and confront the cops who prevented them from doing so.
The statement said: “Following this, the police arrested seven fans who lit and threw flares and objects or those who attacked police officers, and further arrests are expected later. Unfortunately there are fans who come to the sports fields in order to disturb the order, throw objects and attack the security forces. “The Israeli police will continue to act against those fans who attacked police officers, endangered fans, used violence and disturbed order in the stadium.”
