(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 30 – Fleeing from the carabinieri, aboard a stolen van, they went off the road and, in the impact, one of the men on board died. It happened during the night on Via Aurelia, near Rome. It all started when around 3 a patrol of carabinieri from the Campo di Mare station, engaged in territorial control activities, intercepted a white van previously reported as stolen near Ladispoli. While waiting for another patrol to provide support, the military monitored the vehicle remotely without using sirens. The driver, however, noticed the presence of the carabinieri and fled. The van, probably due to high speed, lost control and ended up against the guardrail at the Castel di Guido junction. One of the men on board was found in serious condition on the adjacent embankment and died in the ambulance. It is unclear whether he fell during the escape or was thrown. According to what has been learned, there was no contact with the carabinieri vehicle and no firearms were used. The carabinieri activated first aid for the injured person. Personnel from 118 and the fire brigade intervened on site. The victim, without documents, is apparently 25/35 years old. The local police also intervened to investigate the accident, together with the carabinieri for the technical-scientific investigations. The van will be seized. From an initial reconstruction, the chase lasted about 20 kilometers along Via Aurelia, starting in Ladispoli, after the suspicious vehicle with three people on board was reported near some villas in Santa Severa. The vehicle was found to have been stolen from a construction company in Chiusi, in the province of Siena, and there was a large quantity of copper on board. An autopsy has been ordered. (ANSA).
