The Tamil Nadu Industry Department has taken steps to set up an aviation training institute in Kovilpatti soon. In the country, the number of air passengers is 16 crores per year. This will increase to over 30 crores in the next 10 years. The current number of pilots is 10 thousand; The demand for pilots in the next five years will exceed 23 thousand.
Currently, more than 1,000 pilots are needed annually; Only 600 new arrivals. The rest of the pilots are undergoing training abroad. Therefore, the Ministry of Civil Aviation issued a notification in 2015 to increase pilot training institutes and set up runways.
According to this, the industry has taken various steps to start flight training institutes in Tamil Nadu. An airstrip used by a private company has been found in a village named Thonugal near Kovilpatti in Tuticorin district.
The industry plans to upgrade this airstrip, which was used several years ago, and set up flight training institutes there. For this, 30 acres of land is to be acquired. Talks are being held with various flight training institutes in this regard.
A flight training institute is soon to be set up in Kovilpatti. This will increase the direct revenue to the government and the local economy by up to 60 crore rupees per year. Also, steps are being taken to start more aviation training institutes, industry officials said
