Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 760 with Russian citizens from South Africa landed at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport, according to the airport’s online scoreboard. The liner took off from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on December 3 at 23:35 Moscow time and landed at the Moscow airport at 08:05.

Earlier, the Ethiopian airline organized two export flights for the export of Russians from Cape Town and Johannesburg, within which about 100 people flew home. In Addis Ababa, the Russians boarded one plane. Tickets cost about 100 thousand rubles.

It was decided to take the Russians out due to the deterioration with the spread of the coronavirus in South Africa in November. In particular, there and in neighboring Botswana, for the first time, an omicron strain of coronavirus was identified, characterized by a large number of mutations in peplomeres. Amid the spread of a new strain of coronavirus, most of the world’s airlines suspended flights with this country at the end of November. Russia, along with other states, has changed the rules for arriving from South Africa, Hong Kong and a number of other countries: the entry of foreigners will be limited, and Russians returning to the country will be additionally tested. In addition, in accordance with the decree of Rospotrebnadzor, starting from December 2, all passengers from South Africa arriving in Russia must serve a two-week quarantine.

Those sick with the new strain have already been identified in Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Israel, Spain, Italy, the United States and several other countries. On the eve of two weeks of quarantine were placed two coronavirus-infected Russians who arrived in the country from South Africa.
