In an official statement on Saturday (September 7), the ECB said that Flintoff’s new duties will start from next October. The former cricketer will start working as the head coach of Lions with a tour of South Africa. Then the team will go to Australia to play the series in white clothes in January next year.

Flintoff returned to cricket last year after a terrible car accident in December 2022. In the meantime, he worked as an assistant coach of the England national team in the last Twenty20 World Cup. He is also serving as the batting coach in the third match of the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka at home.

Besides, Flintoff was the head coach of Northern Superchargers in the last season of The Hundred. Despite taking charge of England Lions, he is not prevented from working as the head coach of Superchargers. He can continue working there.
