Flood death toll in Nigeria rises to 600 | Dinamalar

The death toll from floods in Abuja, Nigeria has risen to 600.

Heavy rains are falling in the West African country of Nigeria. People living in coastal areas have been displaced elsewhere.

Out of 36 provinces in the country, 33 provinces have been severely affected by floods.

Two lakh people have lost their homes so far. 82 thousand people have been accommodated in relief camps.

The death toll in the floods has risen to 603. Rescue operations have also been stepped up. 3.40 lakh hectares of agricultural land has been submerged. Crops were washed away in floods.

Although Nigeria experiences such heavy rains and floods every year, officials said this year was the worst in 10 years.

The work of providing relief items including food grains has been intensified.
