Even after last month’s devastating floods, another flood is predicted. Heavy rains may inundate low-lying areas of eight districts of the country next week.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center reported this information on Thursday (September 12).

It is said that in view of the trend of heavy rainfall in the country and upstream, as per the forecast of the meteorological agencies, the water level of the rivers of Chittagong division may increase rapidly in the next 3 days. Some lower areas of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Khagrachari, Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Lakshmipur districts may be flooded.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center also said that the water of all the major rivers of the country is flowing below the coastal line. However, the water in Feni, Muhuri, Halda, Sangu and Matamuhuri rivers of Chittagong division is increasing.

Besides, in view of the trend of heavy rainfall in the country, the water level of the rivers of Barisal and Khulna divisions may increase in the next 3 days.

It should be noted that at the beginning of the monsoon this year, in the second half of June, the north-eastern region was hit by heavy rains and floods in the country. Residents of Sylhet, Sunamganj and surrounding districts spent about two weeks suffering. In the next month (July) too, many villages in the north and north-eastern parts of the country were flooded. But the floods took a terrible form in the month of August. Heavy downpours from India flooded 11 districts of the country (Noakhali, Laxmipur, Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Khagrachari, Sylhet, Habiganj and Moulvibazar) since August 20.

Houses, schools, villages, fish enclosures, crop fields and roads were suddenly swept away by such floods. Electricity and mobile networks were cut off in most places. There is a shortage of food and clean water. 71 people died in it.
