Large-scale flooding in the city of Orsk, located in the Orenburg region of Russia, led to the suspension of work at one of the largest oil refineries in the country. A dam failure caused by an “abnormal flood” caused production to stop at this plant.

Russian Telegram channels report this.

According to Russian propaganda agencies, TASS and RIA Novosti, citing the plant’s press service, this decision was made in order to prevent environmental risks and comply with safety regulations.

The oil refinery in Orsk is one of the leading in Russia and is part of a group of companies controlled by Russian oligarch Mikhail Gutseriev. Its capacity is 6.6 million tons per year, and the plant produces a variety of petroleum products, including motor gasoline, diesel fuel, oil and jet fuel.

The flood in Orsk began on April 5, when a dam broke, which led to flooding of the city area due to the Ural River overflowing its banks. Local authorities were forced to announce an evacuation. In the following days, the situation worsened due to the repeated breakthrough of the earth dam on the Ural River, which led to further flooding of Orsk and the surrounding areas.

According to Russian media reports, the water level in Orsk rose by 11 meters, which led to the flooding of neighboring villages and a partial blackout of electricity and gas in the city. Schools have been forced to switch to remote learning, and city services are battling the effects of flooding to minimize damage and ensure the safety of residents.

Earlier, Kursor reported that the Russian city of Orsk continues to go under water; a dam has broken in another place. In Orsk, more than four thousand houses are already under water.
