Flooding in Munka-Ljungby: Concerns about Permanent Damage and Responsibility

by time news

– It rushes in like a river, says Josefine Bergkvist about the water that comes in through the fence.

In Munka-Ljungby outside Ängelholm, Josefine has paddocks for her horses which she trains before competitions. After both storms and snowfall, the Rönneån has flooded heavily and put Josefine’s paddocks almost completely under water.

That’s how it’s been basically the whole autumn, she says.

Concerns about permanent damage

When she moved to the plot last year, she bought a new fence for the paddocks for SEK 100,000. Now she wonders how long the stool will stand against the water. At the same time, much bait is under water and disappearing.

– Of course I get annoyed that so much of my pastures disappear, and then I get worried that there will be permanent damage, she says.

Earlier this winter, it was also flooded, but froze to ice, she says. Then it snowed, which led to the fact that it was not possible to see where the river went and that her son walked through the ice.

– It went well, but it became quite dangerous.

The municipality: responsibility of the property owner

One reason why the river floods so heavily is that the municipality drains Rössjön of water, so as not to have a dam burst.

– I just think that you have to lose so much at once? Could you have lost a little more slowly? says Josefine Bergkvist.

The security manager for Ängelholm municipality, Jan Klauser, believes that they have already limited how much water they release from Rössjön, but that it is necessary to release.

– When something like this happens, you have a very far-reaching responsibility as a property owner. It is a lot to contact your insurance company. It is important to remember, he says.
