The water of all the major rivers of the country is flowing below the boundary line. Brahmaputra-Yamuna, Padma and Surma-Kushiara rivers in the north-eastern part of the country have receded. Normal flow of Teesta-Dharla-Dudhkumar rivers in northern region is prevailing, which may continue till next 48 hours.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center informed this information in a notification on Wednesday (August 28).

The agency’s executive engineer Sardar Uday Raihan said that in the last 24 hours, the water level of the Ganga river has remained unchanged at Farakka point upstream and at Pankha point bordering the country, which may continue for the next 48 hours.

He said that in the last 24 hours, no significant rainfall was observed in the border areas of the northeastern and eastern districts of Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Feni, etc. and in the interior basins of the Indian Tripura province. The river water in this region and upstream of these regions is decreasing.

According to meteorological agencies, there is no possibility of heavy rainfall in the region and adjacent upstream in the next 24 hours. As a result, the water of Manu-Khwai, Feni, Muhuri, Gomti, Titas etc. rivers may continue to decrease at this time.

Apart from this, there is no forecast of heavy rainfall in the south-eastern region of the country and adjacent upstream in the next 24 hours. At this time, the water of Sangu, Matamuhuri, Karnaphuli, Halda and other major rivers of the region may decrease.

According to meteorological agencies, the low pressure over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining southern Bangladesh has weakened and heavy rainfall is not expected in the south and southwest parts of the country in the next 24 hours. As a result, the normal flow of the river in the region may prevail at this time.
