The Boujrar area in the municipality of Tokra, located 70 kilometers east of Benghazi, was subjected to heavy rains that led to water accumulations within some neighborhoods, resulting in damage to about 30 homes, without any injuries recorded among citizens.
In a statement to the Libyan Al-Anbaa newspaper, the director of the information office of the Red Crescent Society, Tokra branch, Muhammad Al-Dinali, said that “the region is currently witnessing stable weather conditions.”
Al-Dinali added, “The Red Crescent teams are working to open the coastal road and secure the basic needs of the affected families.”
He stressed that “the branch’s emergency room has placed the Boujrar area under the red operations circle, where all capabilities have been directed to the site to provide the required support.”
For his part, Ibrahim Sultan, a weather model analyst at the Roya Foundation for Astronomy and its Applications, explained that “the heavy rains witnessed in some areas of eastern Libya, including Tokra, are not classified as a depression, but rather are aftershocks that occur after earthquakes.”
Sultan confirmed to the Libyan Al-Anbaa newspaper that “this rain came as a result of the effect of a small but strong cloud, accompanied by a thunderstorm, and its impact may continue along the Libyan coast for another 24 hours.”
He pointed out that “cities such as Tobruk and Ajdabiya may witness good to heavy rainfall during the coming hours.”
