Floods in 11 districts: 13 dead, 4.5 million affected

77 upazilas have been flooded in 11 districts of the country due to severe floods and 13 people have died so far. 44 lakh 97 thousand 535 people have been affected. And 8 lakh 87 thousand 629 families have been affected.

On Friday (August 23), the secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief said in a press conference about the ongoing flood situation at the Secretariat. Kamrul Hasan informed this information.

He also said that 160 shelters have been opened in flood. One lakh 88 thousand 739 people have taken shelter in these shelters. He also said that 584 union-municipalities of the country have been damaged in the flood.

The disaster secretary said that 13 people have died in the flood so far, including 2 women. 4 died in Comilla, 1 in Feni, 2 in Chittagong, 1 in Noakhali, 1 in Brahmanbaria, 1 in Laxmipur and 3 in Cox’s Bazar.

At present, 11 districts of the country are flooded, he said, the flood has become severe in Feni. Besides, Chittagong, Comilla, Noakhali, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Brahmanbaria, Lakshmipur, Khagrachari and Cox’s Bazar districts have been affected by floods. The total number of affected people in 11 districts is 44 lakh 97 thousand 535 people. He also said that the affected families are 8 lakh 87 thousand 629 people.
