BOLOGNA. The waters of the Marzeno and Lamone rivers have overflowed upstream of Faenza and have invaded the streets of the town. The Borgo district, the red zone of the two previous floods of 2023, has been flooded, and not only that. Emilia Romagna meteo publishes on Facebook the images of the streets invaded by water and mud. Shortly before, the Senio river flooded in Castel Bolognese (Ravenna) and the water is reaching the city center, and in the entire Emilia-Romagna region there are now over a thousand displaced people after the drastic worsening of the bad weather with the rain showing no signs of abating and the rivers in flood.

In addition to the 800 people evacuated in the Ravenna area, another 165 have been evacuated in the Bologna area and for everyone the night is passing in reception centers made available by municipalities and prefectures.

Appeals were broadcast over loudspeakers and the mayors continue to send out appeals to the population via Facebookinvited to stay on top. The Emilia-Romagna Region is constantly monitoring the situation of the rivers in flood due to the heavy rains of these days, with particular attention “to the most critical situations because we have historical threshold exceedances, such as for example for the Senio in the Ravenna area”. This was stated by the acting president of Emilia-Romagna, Irene Priolo, in a video posted on Facebook at the end of the last weather briefing. The next one is scheduled for the morning. “At the moment we have the flood peaks of the rivers that have exceeded threshold 3 that are starting to go into the valley sections and although a moderation of the rains is expected for the next few hours – said Priolo – obviously the flood peaks will continue to pass and remain above threshold 3”.

The affected basins – he recalled – are in the Bologna area, the Idice and Sillaro basins, in the Ravenna area those of the Senio and Lamone, in the Forlì area that of the Montone. “At the moment we have a decrease in the flood in the Apennine areas, but the peaks are spreading in the valley areas. We are continuing to monitor the situation – he added -, the mobile columns have moved to the territory and 190 volunteers are supporting the municipal administrations, population and mayors”. Priolo then invited all residents to stay constantly informed through the websites and to follow the indications of mayors and authorities. “The activity does not stop – he said – we are in constant contact with the functional center and the civil protection department”.
