Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in at least two places in the Brazilian city of Petropolis.

Heavy rain is falling in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. The city of Petropolis, especially in the mountains, received heavy rainfall. As a result, landslides occurred in various parts of the city. Many houses were damaged by the landslide.

Heavy rains caused rivers to flood. Many vehicles were swept away in the floodwaters in the streets. Houses collapsed. Many parts of the city are flooded. At least 38 people have been killed in a series of torrential rains and landslides. Also, many are missing. Rescue crews are searching for them.

Disaster rescue teams are involved in the rescue operation. A state of emergency has been declared in the city. It is feared that the damage could be exacerbated as heavy rains continue.

A similar series of landslides in 2011 killed more than 900 people in landslides in Petropolis and nearby cities.
