On the occasion of the federal general assembly, the president of the FFR drew up a balance sheet that was worrying to say the least.
Finances are in the red. This Saturday, on the occasion of the federal general assembly held at the National Rugby Center in Marcoussis, Florian Grill spoke about the accounts of the French Rugby Federation. And the least we can say is that the situation is worrying.
«This period was incredibly intense with enormous financial difficulties. Over two seasons, we are simply talking about a 40 million euro deficit. 16 million in 2022-2023 and 24 million in 2023-24. Part is covered by the CVC pension fund», indicated the president of the FFR, in comments reported by RMC Sport . Before specifying: “But any reasonable president does not finance operations with forecasts.»

The World Cup not profitable enough?
The causes of this (very) large deficit are numerous. Among them, the World Cup organized in France would not have been as profitable as hoped. The competition would not have in fact yielded “what» 5 million euros to the FFR; and again, as indicated RMC Sport «this figure is not definitive, since one of the four agencies responsible for marketing these services is close to filing for bankruptcy».
To fill this hole, the president of the FFF presented an eight-axis plan. This is, among other things, based on the development of amateur rugby and in schools. “We need to relaunch rugby from the ground up. We are the second sport in terms of media coverage but the tenth in number of licensees. It is not possiblesaid Florian Grill. There is a desire for rugby with peaks of 18 million viewers during the World Cup, but we have to convince communities that we need to invest. We must develop this sport.»
