Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Outlines Energy Vision, Opposing Biden’s Climate Change Efforts

by time news

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has unveiled his vision for America’s energy sector, focusing on dismantling President Joe Biden’s efforts to combat climate change. DeSantis intends to withdraw the United States from global climate change pacts and end commitments to cut net greenhouse gas emissions. His plan includes approving more pipelines, allowing mining and extraction on federal lands, and revitalizing the nuclear energy industry. DeSantis aims to lower gas prices to $2 per gallon by 2025, despite international complexities that typically impact oil prices. He also plans to refill the country’s strategic petroleum reserves and limit future use to emergencies. Additionally, DeSantis would roll back subsidies for electric vehicles and withdraw from the Paris climate agreement and the Global Methane Pledge. While DeSantis has promoted fossil fuel production nationwide, he has implemented measures to protect Florida’s environment, such as opposing offshore drilling and purchasing Everglades wetlands to prevent oil drilling. However, he seemingly distanced himself from his environmental stance, attributing it to Florida’s voters. DeSantis has faced criticism regarding his past opposition to ethanol subsidies, particularly in Iowa, where he co-sponsored a bill to eliminate the federal renewable fuel standard.
