The low voter turnout is due, among other factors, to some voter wavering in the transparency of the electoral process. This is what the Acting Minister of Innovation and Growth Rosen Karadimov told journalists. The official minister of e-government Valentin Mundrov was also present at the briefing.
The government is determined to work in this direction, said Karadimov, who has also been appointed coordinator of the organizational and technical preparation of the elections by the cabinet.
The six service ministers, leading the departments responsible for the organizational and technical preparation of the elections, will participate in a working meeting with the Central Election Commission (CEC) today. This is the first official meeting with the CEC, the minister noted.
By law, the CEC organizes the elections, and the government provides material and technical support. We want to ensure maximum coordination, public dialogue with the CEC and fully support the process of greater transparency and greater trust in the electoral process, commented Karadimov.
Today I hope for a fruitful coordination with the CEC of the initiatives we have proposed, said the minister. Last week, he sent an official letter to the chair of the CEC, Kamelia Neikova. The letter contains the cabinet’s proposals for improving the rules and procedures to ensure a transparent, democratic and well-organized vote in the upcoming early parliamentary elections on October 27. At the discretion of the CEC, the proposals may be included in the relevant decisions of the commission.
After the meeting, there will be a statement to the media and what decisions have been made will be explained.
Everything that is needed in terms of finances for the elections has been provided, Rosen Karadimov also said.
