FMBA announced the timing of the development of a test for a new strain of coronavirus

The Federal Biomedical Agency (FMBA) is ready to develop a test system for detecting a new strain of the omicron coronavirus within a few days, said the head of the agency Veronika Skvortsova on the Russia 24 TV channel.

“Now we will very quickly make a recruitment for this omicron, because design takes 3-4 days, 5 days to create the test system itself,” Skvortsova said on the air of the Russia 24 channel.

After that, the test system, according to Skvortsova, must be checked. This requires work with the infected themselves. The head of the FMBA added that the new omicron strain actually summed up the mutations that the coronavirus had before.

British scientists reported on the discovery in Botswana of a new strain B.1.1.529, later named omicron, on 24 November. Then the World Health Organization announced its potential danger. This variant has 32 mutations – the most previously known – and is believed to have spread from a person infected with HIV. At the moment, the virus has been found in Belgium, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Germany, Australia, Israel, Portugal and several other countries.
