Fnideq incidents: 152 people brought to justice for incitement to illegal immigration (Baitas)
Rabat – Some 152 people were brought before the courts, as part of the fight against calls inciting illegal immigration, said Thursday the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas.
“Certain young people are encouraged by unknown parties who use social networks to mobilize them” with a view to immigrating illegally, Mr. Baitas underlined during a press briefing after the weekly meeting of the Government Council.
The number of people who tried to immigrate illegally from the town of Fnideq is around 3,000, he added, specifying that all attempts were aborted.
After expressing the government’s regret for the Fnideq incidents, Mr. Baitas noted that illegal immigration is a problem “present and recurrent in a large number of countries.”
The government official also praised the great professionalism and wisdom demonstrated by the police, in full compliance with the legal rules in force, to the extent that they “ensured, first of all, to guarantee the safety of people who have attempted to immigrate illegally”, knowing that no deaths have been recorded among them.
