The central government is going to give DA arrears, dearness hike etc. to its employees. At present, all central government employees are getting their salary as per the 7th Pay Commission. Although the government will pay huge amount as salary to the employees in a few days, it will make them happy, but on the one hand, the amount of tax they will have to pay will also increase. But central government employees can get relief under Section 89 of the Income Tax Act to get tax benefits. As per Section 89(1) of the Act, a person can claim tax credit on or before salary or family pension. Employees have to submit Form 10E in e-filing portal to get tax benefit.

The Income Tax Department will send a notice to those seeking tax relief under Section 89 without Form 10E. Let’s see how to file Form 10E through e-filing portal online. To do this first log on to http://www.incometax.gov.in and then click on Tax Exemption and Reliefs/Form 10E. Next click on assessment year and click on continue. Form 10E will have attachment for 5 types of arrears out of which you have to select attachment-1 which is for advance salary or arrears. Form 10E calculates how much tax benefit the form will get under Section 89. Now after filing Form 10E you have to file income tax return to get the money.

Now the central government is increasing the dearness allowance of its employees by 4% which will increase their total DA to 38%. Government employees are receiving salary under the 7th pay commission, while many people are expecting the 8th pay commission, the government has not given any consideration to the 8th pay commission and it has been clearly stated by the government that the 8th pay commission will not be implemented.
