Following the failure of the occupation of Kyiv: Putin made a dramatic change in the Russian army

by time news

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed a new general to head Russian forces in Ukraine, senior US and European officials told CNN this morning (Sunday). The move came in the wake of the Russian military’s failure to occupy Kyiv.

According to the same sources, the new general in office is Alexander Dvornikov, who served as the commander of the southern district in the Russian army. He is considered a commander with extensive military experience who can lead the forces on a variety of fronts.

The 60-year-old Dvornikov also previously served as commander of Russian forces in Syria, and is believed to be responsible for the reoccupation of the city of Aleppo by the Assad regime from the rebels.
