A desperate mother from Havana province is asking for food aid for her son, Lázaro Abraham, a six-month-old baby who suffers from multiple health problems.
The little boy has a cleft larynx, three heart defects, gastroesophageal reflux, and has undergone a tracheotomy and gastrostomy. Despite intensive care, Lázaro has difficulty gaining weight and currently weighs only 3,700 grams.
“I am Lázaro Abraham’s mother. I am writing to you with my heart in my hand because I need your help for my baby,” Lázaro’s mother expressed in a moving letter.
“We have been admitted to Mariano’s pediatric hospital for almost 7 months now. We were currently in intensive care, we are already in the ward, but in order for him to be able to proceed with his last laryngeal surgery, he needs to gain weight, please.”
The Cuban boy has spent most of his life in hospital and urgently needs cereal and milk to help him gain weight, which is crucial for his development and for him to be able to undergo laryngeal surgery.

On the island, Cubans are constantly asking for help for their sick relatives, because their income is insufficient to buy the medicines and food they need to overcome their illnesses.
Another negative aspect is that there is a shortage of medicines on the island because the so-called “medical power” does not have the necessary medicines to cure illnesses.
“You can help,” is the final call the publication makes for Cubans to support the sick child.
