Prices have skyrocketed due to food shortages in Sri Lanka.

Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the new President of Sri Lanka, has taken steps to increase foodgrain prices in the country.

Various activities have been carried out in Sri Lanka in the last few months to promote traditional nature farming. Accordingly, the farmers were severely affected by the cancellation of imports of foreign goods and restrictions on the import of fertilizers.

Production in the country has been affected by the lack of immediate benefits from these measures, which are based on domestic food grain production. Due to this, there is a problem in getting food grains to the people.

People are facing starvation due to increasing food grain shortages. And people are suffering as the prices of scarce grains rise.

Foodgrain prices rose 22.1 percent in December last year alone, according to the National Statistics Office.

Sri Lanka’s inflation was 17.5 percent in December. Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves are declining day by day and are awaiting the help of China and the World Bank.

Speaking on the occasion, President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that the government hopes that there will be new opportunities in the new year to take appropriate action on economic issues.
