Kottayam: Municipal health supervisor suspended over nurse’s death due to food poisoning The municipal health supervisor was suspended after the food poisoning hotel was re-sanctioned. Kottayam Municipality Health Supervisor MR. Chairperson Binzi Sebastian announced that it has been decided to suspend Zanu pending investigation.
Rashmi (33), a resident of Kottayam Kilirur, died due to food poisoning. Two days ago, Rashmi got food poisoning after eating at a hotel called Hotel Park Malappuram Kommanti in Sankranti. Rashmi was a nurse in the Ortho Department ICU of Kottayam Medical College. Rashmi, who was admitted to the Medical College Hospital for treatment due to food poisoning, later deteriorated further.

DYFI workers vandalized Hotel Park Malappuram Kokimanti Restaurant in Kottayam Sankranti in the incident of death of a young woman due to food poisoning. During the DYFI march, the activists vandalized the hotel’s name and the plant pots in front. DYFI alleged that the reason for Rashmi’s death was the failure of the municipal corporation.
It is alleged that no action has been taken against the hotel even though there have been cases of food poisoning in the past. More complaints are being raised against Hotel Park Malappuram Kokimanti restaurant in Sankranti. From here, a couple who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital due to food poisoning has lodged a complaint with the police.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Veena George said that the Food Safety Department has inspected 429 establishments across the state. 43 institutions have been shut down. 43 establishments including 22 unsanitary establishments and 21 unlicensed establishments were closed.
Notices were issued to 138 institutions. 44 samples have been sent for testing. The minister clarified that strong inspections will continue. Health Minister Veena George had instructed the Food Safety Commissioner to conduct extensive inspections in all 14 districts of the state.
