The high inflation rates greatly harm the most vulnerable families, for whom the consumption of basic products such as food i l’energy absorb a large part of the monthly budget. According to the consumer price index (CPI) data for the month of Augustfood accumulates an average increase of 13.8% in one year, with increases reaching 25.6% in milk; 24% in oils; 22.4% in ous; 21.7% in cereals and derivatives and 15.2% in the case of pa. He chicken accumulates an annual increase of 17.6% and the fish, of 9.9%. The baby foodhave risen 17.7% in one year. “It is difficult to know what will happen in the coming months, but the truth is that prices do not reflect the rise in costs at source. This is very clear”, summarizes Andoni García, manager of Agrarian Markets the agricultural organization COAG. It is an opinion that coincides with that of some of those responsible for the food industry consulted, from the oil, milk, bread and egg sectors. The rise in the production costs of farmers and ranchers, which COAG figures at an average of 40%, has not reached the shelves of supermarkets and the doubt is whether it will eventually reach them or whether, on the contrary, the impact will be distributed among the different links of the food chain (producers, industry, distributors, trade and consumers). What happens in the coming months with the prices of energy and raw materials will determine, in part, the endurance capacity of each of these links.
