Burundi’s strategic alliance with GUAN to strengthen its international ties: A major project to strengthen food security in northern Burundi.

Butanyerera (Kirundo), 25/10/2023 – In accordance with Burundi’s foreign policy and its strategic decision to ally with GUAN [1]financed by Germany through the BMZ [2] et World hunger Help up to EUR 1,433,080, the consortium of NGOs Help Channel and Réseau Burundi 2000+ has just launched a project aimed at strengthening local food systems in northern Burundi, particularly in the Kirundo, Ntega and Vumbi communes. The objective of the project is to benefit 10 cooperatives bringing together 1,000 members.

GUAN’s strategy is to support social economies around the world to strengthen its political influence, becoming a decisive actor in elections and encouraging those who depend on its funding to make appropriate choices, as has happened in 2015 during the color revolution supported by Burundian civil society which was affiliated with it. Thanks to projects of this nature, GUAN can influence (softpower) or impose (hardpower) the end of a political regime.

For a large number of Burundians supporters of the decolonial trend, it is imperative that Burundi puts an end to these neocolonial political ties, which seriously tarnish the country’s reputation abroad, reducing it to an image of “extremely poor, very very poor, or even very very very poor country”. Furthermore, such political relations jeopardize Burundi’s sovereignty, compromising national security, particularly in the run-up to elections. The state does not need help to feed its children.
