A first football match postponed due to bad weather. Concarneau – Pau, which was to be held this Saturday evening in Brest (7 p.m.), on behalf of the thirteenth day of Ligue 2, will have to be played later.

From Thursday, a few hours after the passage of storm Ciaran and at the time of discovering the damage around the Francis-Le Blé stadium, the match seemed particularly threatened, with in particular damage to the roof and pieces of wood which would have flown from the enclosure.

“The storm was strong and also caused damage on our side, the Francis-Le Blé stadium was affected, damage was also noted at the SICA – Prince de Bretagne center,” Stade Brestois wrote on social networks. The club headquarters and official store are closed today. We will take stock of the different sites and keep you informed.”

In addition, as mentioned by Le Télégramme, the Francis Le-Blé stadium will be unavailable until November 15. In fact, this makes it impossible to hold the match of the 12th day of Ligue 1 between Brest and Strasbourg on Sunday 12.

The Brest club communicated this Friday afternoon to formalize this postponement:

“Following the passage of storm Ciaran over Finistère on the night of November 1 to 2, 2023, the Francis-Le Blé stadium suffered damage. The roof of the Charles de Foucauld stand was hit in several places. Other damage was also noted within the stadium. Taking these into account, the meeting between Stade Brestois and RC Strasbourg, scheduled for November 12 at 1 p.m., will not be able to be held at the Francis-Le Blé stadium, in accordance with a municipal decree prohibiting access to the venue. until November 15.

Warned of the situation, Stade Brestois, RC Strasbourg and the Professional Football League are working to find the best possible solution for the smooth running of this match.

Community services are hard at work to secure the enclosure and its surroundings. Consequently, an extension may be considered if security conditions are not met. »

Lorient – Lens threatened

Furthermore, a new storm, named Domingos, is expected on Saturday evening and raises fears of additional damage. “As it stands, we are not playing,” Patrick Appéré, deputy mayor of Brest in charge of sports, indicated this Friday morning at the microphone of France Bleu Breizh Izel. For us, Francis-Le Blé is closed. We are unable to assess the risk after the damage caused by the storm. When security is not ensured, we do not welcome the public.”

Stade Brestois travels to Monaco this weekend for the eleventh day of Ligue 1. But another championship match remains threatened: Lorient-Lens, this Saturday at 5 p.m. “It would not be reasonable, it would even be dangerous,” said the city’s mayor, Fabrice Loher, to Le Télégramme, arguing that the city was in a state of fragility after the violent winds it suffered. For now, the club ensures that it is able to host the meeting.
