Football: Arsenal atomise, Manchester United assure

Arsenal won the biggest away victory in their history in the Premier League by pulverizing West Ham (6-0), which allows them to remain in the title race on the evening of the 24th day, played on Sunday.
Since their convincing victory against Liverpool last Sunday (3-1), Arsenal has not convinced anyone about their ability to get involved in the title race. The show imposed on West Ham will enrich the debate a little more, as the Gunners have outclassed an opponent against whom they had lost twice this season (3-1 in the League Cup in November and 2-0 at the Emirates at the end December).
In the short term, this heavy defeat raises questions for West Ham. David Moyes’ team, now eighth, has not won a single match in 2024, and was notably eliminated from the League Cup by Bristol (Championship).
The Hammers, abandoned by their public from the second half onwards, do not seem to have recovered from a euphoric end to 2023 – the best in the club’s history according to Moyes.
United in joy
Apart from Erling Haaland, who scored on Saturday for the first time since November, the other Scandinavian striker who makes defenders tremble is Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish striker contributed to Manchester United’s new victory at Aston Villa (2-1), which allows the Mancunians to regain hope in the race to qualify for the next Champions League. Sixth with 41 points, they are five lengths from Aston Villa and six from the first qualifier Tottenham.
This convincing success is the third in a row in the championship, a first this season.
