The Korea Football Association plans to finalize the selection of the head coach for the women’s national team by the end of next month.

The Korea Football Association’s new national team strengthening committee under Chairman Choi Young-il held its first meeting at the Football Association building in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 29th.

The first meeting, held in the chairman’s office on the third floor of the Football Association building, was attended by a total of seven people, including Chairman Choi, newly elected vice-chairman of the Football Association Han Jun-hee, Hanyang University coach Jeong Jae-kwon, K-League match supervisor Park Cheol, former women’s U-20 national team coach Hwang In-seon, FC Seoul scout Baek Jong-seok, and Jeonbuk Football Association executive director Yoo Jong-hee.

In the first meeting, which started at 1 p.m. and lasted for about two hours, the Power Reinforcement Committee awarded letters of appointment and had a welcoming ceremony.

Afterwards, it was decided to appoint a head coach for the women’s national team by the end of next month.

The women’s national team has been without a head coach since the contract of coach Colin Bell, who had led the team since 2019, ended early in June.

The women’s national team is preparing for an A match in October.

According to a football association official, the new power reinforcement committee is said to have discussed the qualifications, career, playing style, and tactical style required for the women’s national team coach.

The Power Reinforcement Committee will hold its second meeting in early September and begin detailed discussions to select a coach for the women’s national team.

He is also expected to find a new head coach for the U-23 men’s national team by the end of this month.

The U-23 national team, led by coach Hwang Sun-hong, is looking for a new coach after failing to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics after being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Asian Cup in April.

The U-23 national team must prepare for the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup, the Nagoya Asian Games, and the 2028 Los Angeles (LA) Olympics.

The Power Reinforcement Committee was effectively disbanded in June when former Chairman Jeong Hae-seong resigned during the selection process for the national soccer team.

Afterwards, Chief Technology Officer Im Im-saeng continued the work of selecting the national team, and coach Hong Myung-bo took over the reins.

The association has begun selecting a new chairman for the power reinforcement committee ahead of the 3rd round of Asian qualifiers for the North and Central American World Cup in September, and on the 27th, appointed Vice Chairman Choi Young-il as the new chairman and appointed new members.
