The Football Association’s Professional Committee Meets to Discuss Plans for the Future

On Thursday, the professional committee of the football association gathered to discuss various topics, including the future plans for the sport. Yossi Benyon, the professional director, presented a presentation to the committee members, addressing several key issues.

Benyon expressed concern about the impact of playing in front of small, socially distanced crowds, stating, “Instead of playing in front of 30,000 people, we played outdoors, crowded games, players were depressed from everything that was happening.” He also highlighted the promotion of young players to the senior team.

Chairman of the Football Association, Shino Zoartz, set clear goals for the association, emphasizing the importance of reaching the Euros. He acknowledged the disappointments of past failures but urged the committee to focus on the upcoming semi-finals and work towards qualifying for the tournament.

However, committee member Moshe Damayo pointed out the challenges posed by the ongoing war, which could impact the hosting of games. It is yet to be determined where the Israeli national team will play in the upcoming semi-finals against Iceland on March 21, 2024.

Furthermore, if the state of war continues, UEFA may not allow Israel to host the matches, potentially leading to the team playing in Budapest. The winner of the semi-final match will have a chance to qualify for Euro 2024, with the final playoff taking place on March 26.

The article also noted that Iceland finished the Euro qualifying tournament in fourth place in their group, and the Israeli team had previously drawn twice against them in the League of Nations in June 2022.

The future of football in Israel remains uncertain amidst various challenges, but the association is determined to overcome obstacles and strive for success in upcoming tournaments.
