Football/CAN 2025 qualifiers: Gabon bounces back against the Central African Republic (2-0) – AGP

by time news

Libreville, September 10, 2024 (AGP) – The Gabon national team dominated the Central African Republic (2-0), this Tuesday in Franceville, and repositions itself in the qualifying race for the next African Cup of Nations, in group B, we noted.

Very quickly buried after the rout against Morocco (1-4) last Friday in Agadir, the Gabon national team knew how to react at home and chase away the ambient skepticism born of its disappointment on Moroccan soil.

Dominating the great breadth of the encounter, the Panthers, from the first minutes of the match, displayed their intentions and their thirst for recovery.

National coach Thierry Mouyouma slightly modified his starting eleven and brought verticality into his team’s game. And the harvest was rather good, since Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, on penalty (1-0, 11th) and Shavy Babicka (2-0, 39th), gave consistency to the superiority of the local team at the end of the first period.

The second act was, subsequently, similar to the first with the only difference being the score which remained unchanged, despite the many opportunities and goal situations, on the Panthers’ side. And beware of regrets when it will be necessary to take out the calculators next November to take stock of group B, with a particular goal average which could have its impact when it comes to deciding between Gabonese and Central Africans.

In the meantime, Thierry Mouyouma and his troops have fulfilled their mission and remain “alive” for the future. Especially since thanks to this victory, Gabon moves up to third place in the group with three points (-1), behind the Central African Republic (2nd, 3pts, +0) and Morocco (1st, 6pts, +4) who defeated Lesotho (4th, 0 pt, -3) last Monday (1-0).

The Panthers of Gabon will even have, during the next two days in October, the opportunity to distance themselves from the Central African Republic, if they manage to win their double confrontation against Lesotho.
