This is a final decision taken by the Scottish club Celtic Glasgow: members of the Green Brigade, one of the club’s main supporters groups, will no longer have the right to attend their favorite team’s matches. Whether at home or away.

The club, which suspended their subscriptions, accuses them of having waved numerous Palestinian flags, notably last October 25 in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid (2-2). That day, hundreds of flags were brandished in the stands by this group of ultra supporters formed in 2006. Many “Free Palestine” could also be read there.

The Scottish club, in a press release, justifies its decision by “unacceptable behavior and non-compliance with regulations”, which notably prohibits the Palestinian flag from the stands. And fears exposing himself to sanctions from UEFA, organizer of the Champions League, which does not authorize political demonstrations in the stands or on the pitches.

A few days before the Madrid reception, Palestinian flags were out in the ranks of Celtic supporters: during a trip to Edinburgh against Hearts, the green and white flags were replaced by Palestinian flags. A new mark of support for the victims of the strikes on the soil of the Gaza Strip, and their families.

The support of these members of the Green Brigade for Palestine is not recent. During the 2018 Scottish Cup final, for example, supporters displayed the following banner: “Celtic stands with Palestine. Stop genocide, stop racism.”
