No footballer has ever been sung more hymn-like than Jürgen Klopp. Now the fans have rededicated an old hit from the second best band in the world to the Liverpool FC coach – and explain in two lines why they love him so much.

Dhe best band in the world and of all time? For John Peel, record pope and BBC pop music teacher, it was the chorus of football fans at Liverpool Stadium when he, the chorus, sang The Beatles’ ‘She Loves You’. Then not only the old theories of communication with their senders and receivers dissolved. Then pop and football became one.

So the choir in the Kop, as they call their stadium in Liverpool, sang “All You Need is Love” in 1967 – so they sang “I Feel Fine” in 2022, but with different lyrics than Paul McCartney and John Lennon in 1964. It was called then : “I’m so glad that she’s my little girl/ She’s so glad she’s telling all the world.” And today: “I’m so glad that Jurgen is a Red/ I’m so glad he delivered what he said.” A song about the happiness of mutual love has become a love song for Jürgen Klopp, who has been in charge of Liverpool FC for seven years: “The Jurgen Chant” celebrates the great luck that Klopp is a Red and that he has always kept his promise.

“Not the first time …”

He never promised too much, and that’s what makes him a real red from the north: “I’ma normal guy from the Black Forest.” The Scousers proudly wear red shirts with his sentences through the streets: “Only stupid people are changed by success” or “My biggest skill is common sense”. Only fools do not know humility, and reason is a gift.

Jurgen the Red

“I’m so glad that Jurgen is a Red” is not the first “Jurgen Chant”. Liverpool singer Jamie Webster has turned Opus Live is Life into Jurgen Klopp, na na na na na! And there are battle chants that are sung everywhere, in all stadiums with a significant fan culture, but rarely to the coach. “Liverpool have Jurgen Klöpp!”, “Clap your hands for Jurgen Klopp!”, “With Klopp we kopped a lot” and “Juuuurgen Klopp, he’s the new King of the Kop!”

The boss, as the Black Forest normalo is known on Anfield Road in Liverpool, has also been spotted wearing t-shirts featuring The Beatles, the second best band in the world and of all time.
