Gernot Rohr has called up 25 players to face Rwanda in a clash as part of the CAN 2023 qualifiers.
Arrived in Cotonou last night, the new coach of the Benin national football team, Gernot Rohr, was at a press conference on the afternoon of Friday March 10, 2023 at the General Mathieu Kérékou Stadium in Cotonou.
On this occasion, the Franco-German technician unveiled a list of the 25 players called up for the double confrontation against Rwanda as part of the third and fourth qualifying days for CAN 2023.
The list is mainly made up of senior players from the national team such as Khaled Adenon, Stéphane Sessegnon, Steve Mounié and Jodel Dossou. Five players on the list play in the national championship, the Super League Pro. But Gernot Rohr has also chosen to give the chance to very young players, in particular having participated in the CAN under 20 recently in Egypt.
Appointed at the end of February, Gernot Rohr, the former coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, is making his mark in Benin but can count on a staff that knows the players well. “I relied on Moussa for this list. I was appointed 15 days ago so we are working hand in hand. I don’t know everyone yet.” he said during his press conference.

Both matches will be played during this month of March. The first will take place on March 22 and the second five days later, on March 27, 2023. Benin, which has none after the first two days, must imperatively score points to maintain the hope of qualification.
