It’s expected, it’s now official. The French Football Federation (FFF) appointed Laurent Bonadei as head of women’s selection on Friday during its executive committee, held by video, at the Hervé Renard site. This was a choice in advance, since he was an assistant until then for the coach who resigned after the disappointing defeat of the Bleues in the quarter-finals of the Games against Brazil (0-1).

Assistant to the starting coach Hervé Renard has taken the same role alongside him in Saudi Arabia (2019-2023). Little known to the public, Bonadei, 54, previously taught the youth of PSG and Nice or worked as an assistant at USM Algiers. This will be his first experience as a head coach of a senior team. She has already been contacted by the women’s sections of PSG and OL, but she does not want to participate in the daily life of a club.

This native of Marseille will start his mission with a conference from October 21 to 29, with two friendlies, one of which is in Montbéliard (Doubs). He will lead the Bleues, who have already been invited, during Euro 2025 in Switzerland. With the aim, before aiming for the first title in the history of the French women’s team, to finally break the glass ceiling of the quarter-finals.

The French women have reached the final four once in the last eight competitions. It was during the European competition in 2022 under the direction of Corinne Diacre, with a semi-final place against Germany (1-2).
