Pushed to resign from the Spanish Federation a month and a half ago after the storm and outcry raised by his forced kiss on Jenni Hermoso during the Spanish coronation ceremony at the World Cup, Luis Rubiales is not about to return to the soccer. This Monday morning, Fifa announced the three-year suspension of the deposed president. Rubiales, who then tried to put pressure on the player for support, will not be able to practice professional football activity until at least 2026.

“Guilty of breaching article 13 of the Fifa Disciplinary Code, Luis Rubiales, former president of the Spanish Football Federation, was banned by the Fifa Disciplinary Committee from exercising any related activity in football at national and international levels for a period of three years. The facts with which he is accused occurred during the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, held on August 20, 2023. Mr. Rubiales was already the subject of a provisional suspension of 90 days,” indicates Fifa in a press release released early in the afternoon.

“Under the applicable provisions of the Fifa Disciplinary Code, Mr. Rubiales has ten days to request the reasons for the decision, which will, if applicable, be published on the legal.fifa.com portal. It is also possible to appeal to the Fifa Appeals Commission. Fifa wishes to reaffirm its commitment to protecting the integrity of each individual, as well as respecting the rules of good conduct,” concludes the international body.

Later in the day, Luis Rubiales announced his intention to appeal the suspension. “I announce now that I am going to appeal (…) I will go so far as to take the matter to the last instance so that justice is done and the truth comes out,” wrote the former football strongman on X (formerly Twitter), in a publication accompanied by an emoji representing a bicep contracted as a sign of strength.
