Bolton Wanderers striker Victor Adeboyejo is a model athlete. But that didn’t save him from a strange injury recently.
Victor Adeboyejo has been playing for the traditional English club Bolton Wanderers since January 2023 – but the attacker will never have experienced an injury like this before.
The 26-year-old was absent from his club’s 3-2 victory in the EFL Trophy (a cup played between the clubs in the third and fourth leagues, editor’s note) in Barrow during the week for a curious reason: “Victor is suffering from an unpleasant back injury that was caused by a sneeze. Believe it or not,” said Bolton coach Ian Evatt after the match on Tuesday, according to “Bolton News”.
He continued: “We had him examined and should have the results soon.” Before that, the Nigerian had felt fine, “but then suddenly he started sneezing.”
Thinking of the well-built, broad-shouldered Adeboyejo, Evatt added: “Victor is a strong boy and even his sneezes are strong. He heard something crack between his ribs. We hope it is just a cartilage or muscle problem. But we will not know until we have a close look at the scan,” Evatt continued.
The club has not yet provided an update on the severity of the injury. Evatt, however, took the incident with humor – because Bolton are currently plagued by injury and personnel problems anyway: four players were on international duty at the time of the cup match, and eight (!) other players were missing due to injury or injury. “I’m starting to question myself if my players are already injuring themselves when they sneeze. But that’s just how things are with us at the moment, and we have to deal with it.”
