Football: Sarina Wiegman, from the English women’s team to the Netherlands men’s team?

Beaten in the final of the Women’s World Cup by Spain, England won over observers with their polished and attractive game. At the head of this team, Sarina Wiegman has also attracted attention. According to the British newspaper The Telegraphthe Dutch federation would like to hire his services to lead the men’s team for the next Euro.

Previously, the Dutchman had already been coach of the Netherlands, but of the women’s section. She notably led her players to the title at Euro 2017, before winning this competition again five years later with England. Sarina Wiegman also played for her national team, compiling 99 caps between 1987 and 2001.

This is not the first time that the coach has been cited as the head of a men’s national team. A few days ago, the English federation considered that she was “the best person for the job” as coach of the selection after the departure of Gareth Southgate following Euro 2024. The United States were also interested in the Dutch for her women’s team, beaten in the round of 16 of the World Cup. The 53-year-old technician, however, is under contract until 2025 with England and should not be allowed to leave the ship in view of her excellent results.
